Grants Pass Home Goes Union
Royale Gardens Workers Form 31st SEIU 503 Unit
Workers at Pinnacles Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass have joined SEIU Local 503, making theirs the 31st nursing home in Oregon with union representation. Nearly two-thirds of the facility’s 130 workers signed cards, which were counted by Rep. Peter Buckley.
Members of the organizing committee (above) included Anna Moritz CNA, Ashley Lowen CNA; Anniey Confer CNA; Nichole Smith, CNA; Jackie Ternosky, Secratary and CMA; Sue Myers, CNA; Molly Gregory, CNA; Cheri Chalker, CNA; Debbie Rian, CMA; Renee Varney, CNA: Unita Woodruff, Dietary; Amanda Woodruff CNA, and Chuck Anderson CNA.
The workers said they were primarily motivated by the prospect of having a say in changes occurring at the facility and in staffing issues. They were aided by members of the SEIU 503 staff and two volunteer organizers from the Evergreen Windsor nursing home, Judy Byers and Mayra Hoshines.
